Judith DeLozier
Co-Developer of NLP
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart."
The only sister to 6 brothers, Judith grew up in Oklahoma. Judith studied anthropology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Like her accomplices she too was intrigued in NLP. Judith was a member of the Grinder and Bandler’s original group of students. From then on she went to make a significant contribution to the development of NLP. Judith was also involved in the creation of fundamental technique in NLP, Reframing.
Judith was a student of Milton Erickson, it is from him that she modeled the strategy for creating and utilizing trance states and metaphors. NLP New Coding, was the creation the exploration of inter-relationship NLP and the binds on culture, community, art. Judith contributed to NLP New Coding include Attention Training and the relationship between conscious and unconscious processes, in addition to the development of Perceptual Positions, which have become one of the fundamental distinctions of NLP.Judith has been mainly responsible for bringing NLP to the area of transcultural competence, pioneering the application of NLP to the development of cross cultural skills. Judith’s background in ballet and Congolese dance has lead her
to promote the use of dance and movement as a primary tool of NLP. One manifestation of this was the development of the Dancing S.C.O.R.E. technique. Another is the creation with Robert Dilts of the processes of Somatic Syntax.
“Live your Journey as a Hero.”
Judith has been one of the principal trainers together with Robert Dilts, at the NLP University, for about a decade. The NLP University conducts a two month long summer courses in NLP. The NLP University thus has become a place where can seek to re-connect with the spirit of NLP.
Some of the major developments that has come out of this corporation are: Systemic NLP, Generative NLP, the Somatic syntax and more. If you have ever danced the SCORE, used the three perceptual positions, done a reframing then you have experienced one of Judy’s contributions to NLP.
Judith DeLozier has been a trainer, co-developer, and designer of training programs in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming since 1975. From 1975, Judith DeLozier has contributed to the development of the field of the NLP. As a member of the original group of students of Bandler and Grinder, Judith has made important contributions to the development of numerous models and processes of the NLP. She has been a coach and a designer of programs of NLP training. As a co-author of Neuro-Linguistic Programming Vol. I (1980), with Robert Dilts, John Grinder and Richard Bandler, Judith was involved in the creation of one of the fundamental techniques of the NLP: The Reframing.
In the book Turtles All the Way Down: Pre-requisites to Personal Genius (1987), in which she is co-author with John Grinder, Judith explores the interrelations between the NLP and the culture, the art, and the epistemology. The outcome of this work was “The New Code”, generating a movement towards a more systemic vision of the NLP, and a re-emerge of the interest in the work of Gregory Bateson.
The background of Judith in ballet and Congolese dance has taken her to promote the use of dance and movement as an instrument of the NLP. One result from this was the development of the Dancing technique S.C.O.R.E. Another result is the creation, with Robert Dilts, of the processes of the somatic syntax.
If you can’t heal with your presence, you won’t be able to heal with your words.
If not for Dick, I would never have know the magic of Judy, and Dick was right ‘Once you learn with Judy, there is no going back’ - she is the last of our world, In my opinion of someone sop congruent and yet who belongs to this world. Her laughter and approach to life is a blessing and in all my interactions with her I have felt ‘she is a blessing to our living world”.
Her contributions to this space is respected, adored and celebrated in all parts of the world.
I have seen her touch so many lives.
Once you know her, you will too realise that her wrinkles are a lie. She is the ‘much much more’ of my life, a living legend and a giant on whose shoulder I stand.
When my visa to the states didn't get approved in 2016, I was so disturbed and angry, as I wouldn't not be able to meet her. I wrote to her, and she says “No hurries, No worries my dear Anil”
Life is what happens to us when we have a great plan.
And you know what a great plan is, she asked, and then continued saying,
"A great plan is one, that can include life in it. "
She has been living the principles of NLP all through and her life is a dedication, and I have learnt a lot from her.
So I remember the presupposition of NLP “all the resources are within us”
And there was a time that Dick had said “I may not have all the answers to the questions that life asks me, but I know that within me lies the resources that will enable me to get to the answers”
No to this Judy added "or within reach”
Oh My God! Isn’t she the master of reframe!
There is a joke that goes around at the university, and this has been going batch after batch, its hilarious once you know Judy and after you have dived deep into NLP.
So each time Robert introduces the presuppositions of ‘Map is not the territory’ he would add to it “Unless it is Judy’s” how cool it is! she is a veteran and a student of doctor Erickson and Gergory Baetson.
She has contributed a generation to the field. And I can still hear her say “I am blessed to know that these heart beats contributed.” A Giant, for me. Her creations, participations and her very presence has touched me in many ways – I can say I was in the shadow of my unicorn when I met her and ever since then, she will be my strongest anchor.
Every time Dick spoke to me about Judy, there was an energy of compassion, love and oozing gratitude. I was in awe of that form of Dick too, to see Dick transform into a student was a lesson to learn in itself. He would never leave an opportunity to share about his teachers or about his experiences, so in ways, we, his students knew so much about Judy’s energy and magic.
I first met Judy in Moscow, and then in her natural habitat, in California. I still go ‘OMG’ when I hear her. And she is the spiritual energy and I am so blessed that I met her on the path. The gratitude and aww she emulates each time she speaks about her
teachers is pure wonderment. It is something I have put in my sacred space. I feel blessed, touched and sponsored in many ways with her very presence.
We all exist in time and yet belong to eternity. “What is NLP?” when I ask Judy, she says, “Its another description of life” It is, and I can tell…
“If you cannot heal with your presence, I don’t know what can”
